Fluorosilicone rubber is a specialty synthetic rubber that is made through the copolymerization of methylvinylsiloxane, dimethylvinylsiloxy-terminated polydimethylsiloxane, and a small amount of vinylidene-fluoride. It has excellent properties that make it suitable for applications where standard silicone rubbers cannot be used.
Due to the addition of fluorinated groups into the silicone polymer chain, fluorosilicone rubber has very high resistance to heat, cold, oil, chemicals and compression set. It can operate continuously in temperatures ranging from -55°C to +205°C. This wide service temperature range allows it to be used in applications involving exposure to extreme hot and cold conditions.
The fluorosilicone polymer also has low surface tension, which gives cured fluorosilicone rubber an inherent release ability. This makes it an ideal material for production of sealing gaskets, o-rings, hoses and other components that are used in applications requiring adhesion prevention or easy demolding. It is commonly used as release liners and non-stick coatings in various industries.
Furthermore, fluorosilicone's oil and chemical resistance allows it to be utilized as shaft seals, diaphragms, valve stem seals and other parts in machinery used in oil fields, oil refineries and chemical processing plants. Its weathering resistance and impermeability to gases also makes it suitable for exterior seals and gaskets in vehicles, appliances and industrial equipment.
The Advantages of FVMQ:
Excellent heat and cold resistance - It can operate continuously from -60°C to +200°C, much wider than other rubbers. This makes it suitable for applications with extreme temperature fluctuations.
Outstanding chemical resistance - It has very high resistance to most oils, fuels, chemicals and solvents. This allows it to be used in harsh and corrosive environments.
Low surface tension - Cured fluorosilicone rubber has an inherent release ability due to its low surface tension. This makes it ideal for applications requiring non-stick or easy demolding properties.
Weathering resistance - It is highly resistant to UV light, ozone and other environmental factors. Components made from it can withstand long-term outdoor exposures.
Impermeability - Fluorosilicone rubber has very low permeability to gases and liquids. This provides effective sealing against leakage, seepage and permeation.
Electrical insulation - It has excellent dielectric strength and can be used for applications involving electrical insulation at high or low voltages.
Compression set resistance - Items produced from it have minimal long-term deformation under compressive load.
Aging resistance - Its properties remain stable over a very long period, extending the lifetime and maintenance intervals of products.
Biocompatibility - Grades are available that are suitable for applications in the medical, pharmaceutical and food industries.
