Detailed Description & Usage:
FFKM stands for Fluorinated Fluorocarbon Rubber. It is a type of synthetic rubber that contains fluorinated atoms in its chemical structure.
Due to the presence of fluorinated, FFKM has exceptional chemical and heat resistance properties. It can withstand temperatures from -25°C to 200°C and has resistance to over 300 chemical agents that can degrade other elastomers.
Common chemical agents that FFKM is resistant to include hydrocarbon fuels, engine oils, hydraulic fluids, and refrigerants. It is often used in sealing applications where conventional rubber seals would fail, such as in pumps, valves, and gaskets in the oil & gas, chemical, and semiconductor industries.
FFKM maintains its flexibility even at very low and very high operating temperatures, allowing it to provide effective seals where other materials cannot. It has excellent compression set resistance, meaning it does not permanently deform when compressed for long periods. This allows seals and gaskets made from FFKM to maintain tight tolerances over the lifetime of equipment use.
The Advantages of FFKM:
Excellent chemical resistance - FFKM contains fluorinated atoms that give it outstanding resistance to a wide range of chemicals like solvents, acids, bases, fuels and industrial fluids. This makes it very tolerant of harsh chemical environments.
High temperature performance - Due to the carbon-fluorinated bond strength, FFKM maintains its properties even at extreme high temperatures up to 200°C/392°F continuously. Some grades can handle short-term spikes up to 260°C/500°F. This far exceeds most other elastomers.
Low permeability - The tightly bound carbon-fluoriated structure makes FFKM extremely impermeable. Very few chemicals can penetrate it, rendering it suitable for applications involving gas or liquid containment and transmission.
Superior compression set resistance - When compressed for long periods, FFKM does not experience excessive deformation like other rubbers. It maintains tight seals over time without experiencing creep. This keeps equipment running efficiently. Low friction & wear properties - The slippery fluorinated surface results in low friction against mating parts.
Combined with good abrasion resistance, this reduces wear of dynamic seals and allows machinery to operate smoothly. Wide service temperature range - FFKM can handle applications from cryogenic -25°C/-13°F up to high temperatures without becoming brittle or breaking down. Its flexibility spans a greater working temperature window.
Weathering resistance - Exposure to sunlight, ozone gases etc has minimal effect on FFKM as the carbon-fluorinated bonds are extremely stable. It maintains properties for decades in outdoor equipment. Biocompatibility - Being highly inert, FFKM poses very little risk of reaction when used in applications involving food contact or medical devices.
